5 things to see and do in Zakynthos

We are sticking to Greek vibes for this month’s flashback. Tag along to Zakynthos! When I think of this pearl of the Ionian Sea, the first colors that come to mind are blue and green. Greece is a very blue country overall with all its stunning beaches, however Zakynthos also has a very beautiful landscape to top it off. My first tip? Rent a car and go discover all this beauty!

Navagio Beach

This is the symbol of Zakynthos, and you can’t go to the island without seeing it. I’m talking about Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach. There are two ways to admire this small beach: going there by boat or climbing up to the cliffs for the view of it. Do both of them, trust me. The view is breathtaking and the water is so super blue, you really want to swim in there. Also, it’s awesome to observe the shipwreck from close by.

Agios Nikolaos

We took the boat to Navagio Beach from this little fishermen’s town. Agios Nikolaos is such a cute place! There are several beach bars here where you can eat a delicious meal with your feet in the sand!

Blue Caves

After visiting Navagio Beach we continued with the same boat to the Blue Caves. These aren’t really caves but openings in the cliffs where you can swim in between. The Blue Caves thank their name to the reflection of the sun. This creates a blue light, making the skin look blue under water.

Laganas

Still not tired after all the swimming and exploring and are you down for some dancing? Head to Laganas then. We stayed in this coast town and there are plenty of clubs, bars and restaurants to choose from. Not everyone is a fan of this and maybe it’s not the best place to stay during high season. We went in the beginning of May however and this was perfect. There was no mass tourism but we had plenty of entertainment at night. Our beautiful hotel Mariana was also in a nice quiet corner of Laganas. I can really recommend Mariana for a stay!

Marathonisi

Looking for a fun day trip? There is a tiny island just off the shore of Laganas called Marathonisi. It is also known as Turtle Island because it is the breeding ground of the Carreta Carreta turtles. This is a protected territory and very special to see.
